Introducing Walak: The Artwork Behind Our World Championship Wheel Covers

Meet Walak the artwork gracing our wheel covers at the 2026 World Championships in Granollers, Spain.

As Wheelchair Handball Australia prepares for its historic international debut at the 2026 IHF Wheelchair Handball World Championships in Granollers, Spain, we're proud to unveil the artwork that will travel with our athletes onto the world stage: Walak.

The Design

Walak means "Giant Burrowing Frog" in Walmajarri. Hidden within the intricate detail of the artwork is Walak itself — an almost "Where's Wally" experience as you search through the layers to find the frog.

The palette explores green in all its forms — from bright lime and fresh leaf green through to olive, teal and deep forest tones — balanced with soft cream and crisp white. Layered, playful and full of detail, Walak is a celebration of green with a little something hidden within.

About the Artist — Brodie George, Jalayimiya Designs

Jalayimiya Designs is a creative collective founded by Brodie George, showcasing Aboriginal paintings, wearable art and collaborative partnerships.

Brodie is a proud Walmajarri woman from Fitzroy Crossing in the Kimberley region of Western Australia. Her Aboriginal name is Jalayimiya, pronounced "jul-a-mia," and her skin name is Nakarra — all Walmajarri people belong to one of eight skin groups, which help people understand how they are related to one another.

Brodie spent her childhood surrounded by family, country and culture, learning and using language, and watching the old people paint at Mangkatja Arts. Artistic from a young age, the artwork of her mob has shaped her own distinct style — a bright desert palette with a modern adaptation, painting her perception of the country she grew up on using colours often seen across the Kimberley.

Brodie also lives a low-tox, holistic lifestyle using natural materials and ingredients in her household — a philosophy she carries into her business. Jalayimiya Designs makes conscious decisions around materials, using recycled plastics where possible, creating made-to-order pieces to reduce landfill, and partnering with businesses that share similar values.

Walak at Granollers

Wheelchair Handball Australia will debut as the first-ever Oceanian nation at the IHF World Championships this September, competing alongside 11 other nations across all six continents for the first time in the event's history. Walak will roll onto court with our athletes as a proud symbol of culture, country and identity.
