About the Australian Cyclones
The Australian Cyclones are our national wheelchair handball team. They are a new force in world sport and the first Oceanian nation to take the court at the IHF Wheelchair Handball World Championship.
A cyclone starts small, builds momentum, and sweeps everything up in its path. That is how we see this team: a young program with big ambition, gathering speed with every athlete, coach and supporter who joins.
The name also nods to the wheels at the heart of our sport, spinning fast and turning hard. It speaks to the power, pace and fearless attacking style of 4-a-side mixed-gender handball. And it is proudly Australian, drawing on the raw energy of our own tropical north.
The Cyclones represent a pathway as well as a team. They are a first step towards a national program that opens doors for people of all abilities and backgrounds, builds a pipeline from Come N Try Days to high performance, and sets its sights towards Brisbane 2032.
Where the Cyclones go, the storm follows.
